Thursday has just released it's new album- Common Existence. Just recently signed to Epitaph around September, the band was looking for a sound a little mature than their own. Honestly, the new album sounds a little like a fusion of old Thursday and The Mars Volta with a harder sound....take a listen-

The new album Common Existence by Thursday is going to be casting a shadow over its previous four full length albums. Common Existence’s songs are definitely deeper and darker sounding than any other songs Thursday has produced. The New jersey band had signed in September with a new record label, Epitaph( holding bands such as, New Found Glory, Motion City Soundtrack, Rancid, and Every Time I die). This gave Thursday the opportunity to evolve and experience other sounds instead of sticking with their classic, energetic Punk/Hardcore style.
The song “Resuscitation Of A Dead Man,” features well-known guitarist and lead vocalist Tim McIlrath of Rage Against, a band that Thursday has been friends with for years. The songs on the album range from electronical concoctions to acoustic like melodies that resembles the genre style of The Mars Volta. The album altogether is somewhat redundant, but all 11 songs do fuse together smoothly into a coherent, and endurable package. As for the lyrics go, Thursday has always done a prevalent job, and likewise goes for the new album.
It’s nice to see Thursday trying out some new tunes and revamping their indigenous music that’s been for almost a decade. But, is Thursday really just hitting common existence with the new album and should they be crossing over into experimental genres? Common Existence cannot compare to the history Thursday has made with it’s previous records- full of catchy and chronic compositions. “Cross out the eyes,” and “Standing on the edge of Summer,” are essentials to Thursday’s background. It’s doubtful that they will be remembered for Common Existence, but for the avid listener it’s a nice change and a quality album to add to your collection.
