Adequacy

Greetings all,

I'm going to be typing up a real blog entry tomorrow at some point, but you should check out my three music reviews that were published on Adequacy.net!!!

I'm a music reviewer!

In addition, you all should really check out this band from Queens (my hood..p.s. holla Ally!). I recently saw them live at Bowery Poetry Club by Houston and Bleeker in The City on Saturday and they rocked.

"We are The Ropes. We want to fight you."

The Ropes
started off as a four-piece band in '05, but have downgraded to just two.

Sharon Shy - vocals / bass
Toppy - guitars / drums / sounds

From NYC, the duo's sound is something of an indie rock formulated masterpiece. It's not unusual to see Toppy with a guitar strapped around his neck as he plays the drums. I find Sharon's voice to be captivating and sweet, but just edgy enough to enhance the overall sound of the band. Lyrically speaking...beautiful. Deep, truthful and everything you could possibly want from this small band.
"All I need
Is water and headphones
Those things are my staples
What I live and breathe"

I wrote a review for this band call Virgo Loves Cancer and I really believe that they need to be recognized. I saw them perform live a The Tank- which i believe is still around canal street- and they were soooo amazing. I also interviewed them after their performance and they were so nice and very humurous, and wrote a little article a while back.

Virgin Megastore closing its doors

*image from papermagazine online*

According to the article I just found-http://www.musicnewsnet.com/2009/02/virgin-megastore-times-square-announces-closing-sales.html,
Virgin megastore in Times Square will be closing by April of this year. Rising rents and a downfall in consumers who are just uninterested in cd retail, have lead to this major music promoting business into its failing.

Another case in point that music culture itself is dying out in the city...although I don't know if I'd call Virgin Megastore a huge influence on the cities music culture...selling overpriced anything is an epic fail.

The Breathing Process

I've checked this band out and I think they deserve to be talked about on my blog. They're a six member band from Massachusetts and Connecticut-

John LaFreniere - Vocals
Brian "Ren" Varney - Bass
Jordan Milner - Guitar
Alana - Keyboards
Alan - Drums

The vocals are a little deeper at some points than I'd like to hear...but that's because I like higher pitched screaming anyway- just my personal taste. Overall I think the sound is pretty clean cut and slightly experimental while still sticking to classic metal melodies.

Take a listen to TBP's myspace for a little more information about this cool band:

TBP will be doing a show with Walls of Jericho on March 23rd in Rochester...awesome! If your haven't listened to Walls of Jericho than you definitely should. WOF has been around for a while and the female vocalist, Candace Kucsulain is just amazing.

****I posted up a music video of their song "The Harvesting"...it's a little intense, but it's a good view of the whole band and a really crazy song.
